JUNIOR GOLF

The Future of Golf: Developing Your Childs Golf Ability To Tournament Stage

We take your child from first swing to first tournament!

The Barbados Golf Association is fully committed to the development and promotion of junior golf in Barbados. The objective is to encourage as many children as possible to learn & play golf.
Considering that the gap between learning and playing has to be bridged, the BGA must ensure that the 20 juniors in the BGA program have the opportunity to play regularly. The major constraint to the development of junior golf in Barbados is that there is only one course, Barbados Golf Club, which actively embraces junior golf programs. Realistically, this is the only walking course that is suitable for juniors to practice and play.
The Barbados Golf Association through its Affiliate Royal Westmoreland Offers a Number of Scholarships to Emerging Golfers. By supporting Junior golf programs actively promotes and nurtures the future of the game by providing access, opportunity and the sharing of information to the region’s young golfers. For those who are embarking on a game that can be enjoyed for a lifetime, The BGA will continue to adhere to one of its Core Values, that of “providing opportunities for all people interested in the game of golf.”

Structured Coaching Program

The centerpiece of the local competition is the Order of Merit (OOM) games. There are 15 OOM played annually, three series of five games each. These games are for children 9 years old and up. These games are specifically designed to prepare junior golfers to play competitively. The BGA is responsible for purchasing trophies/prizes for the three series of OOM games. These games are played at BGC. The Barbados Junior International Golf Championships are played annually over 18/36/54 holes depending on age groups/gender. These championships are WAGR.
